Probably among the least common water snakes in missouri the mississippi green water snake has a range restricted to the southeastern corner of the state. The mississippi green watersnake averages 30 to 45 inches in length. A row of scales is present between the eye and the lip scales.
This species is found in much of the lower mississippi river valley and parts of the coastline adjacent to the mississippi river delta. Its range extends on the coastal plain along the gulf coast from extreme western florida and southern alabama to southeastern texas and then north in the mississippi valley to southeastern missouri and southern illinois. 6 more precisely it is found in southwestern alabama southeastern arkansas northwestern florida southern illinois southwestern indiana western kentucky louisiana southern mississippi southeastern missouri western tennessee and southeastern texas.
They are mostly greenish brown in color with yellow half moon shaped markings on their backs. A medium sized dark colored heavy bodied snake the mississippi green watersnake was once somewhat common in southeastern missouri but is now probably extirpated. The range of nerodia cyclopion is restricted to the united states.

Mississippi green water snakes range from extreme southern illinois down the mississippi valley to the gulf coast. They also are found in coastal areas westward into texas and eastward to the extreme western florida panhandle.
